Empathy

Art by João Lira

They came from ruin, both torn and bruised,
Wounds too old, and love long used.
But in the dark, their hands had met
Two broken souls not gone yet.

They held each other through the ache,
Each breath a tremble, each smile a break.
Until one night, the silence bent
And something vast and holy sent.

Flesh unfurled in twisted grace,
Their faces joined in a soft embrace.
No borders left, no names to call
One being now, beyond it all.

The world still burns, but they do not.
The pain has passed, the war forgotten.
In merging form, they found what's right
Each other, whole. No more fights.
