Annihilli

Art by João Lira

Two figures sit in the hollow glow,
Their bodies sleek, their faces unknown.
Elongated crowns stretch to the dark,
Silent watchers where time falls apart.

One moves her hands in shifting signs,
Fingers weaving sacred lines.
Her eyes, rolled back, see beyond,
Guiding the other where she belongs.

The girl before her, breath held tight,
Mouth agape in trembling light.
Her iris splits, a birthing sight,
Two pupils bloom, pulling in night.

Mesmerized, horrified, yet drawn too near,
She feels the pull, the love, the fear.
Nala sings in unheard tones,
And now, she knows she is not alone.
